Ginnie Springs

UPDATE! August 23, 2010
On our second visit a couple of weeks ago we took this video.

Below is my blog from the first visit...
June 23, 2010

This week we drove up to University of Florida in Gainesville to bring Danny for his UF and Step-up orientation. Pablo who was home visiting also came with us and introduced us to this magical place.

Located about 40 minutes from Gainesville, FL in High Springs, this place surprised the hell out of us. Seven natural springs discharge hundreds of millions of gallons of crystal-clear water that is a constant 72 degrees, year round into the  Santa Fe River.

You reach the spring by floating down the river in your preferred mode of transportation...kayaks, canoes, tubes, etc. Ours was the Caribbean Island USS Living Room below (hey these are engineering students from UF!). We loaded our usual supplies (food, beer, vino) and peacefully floated down the river visiting all 7 springs.

Above...The Caribbean Island USS Living Room...graciously supplied by Pablo's roommates, Juan and Austin.
Below, I'm carrying the custom made table that gets placed in the center, once inflated. It's a little difficult to maneuver but once in the water it's like a living room.

On the way out, we stopped to talk to some of the locals.
